Horse stall mat size for front blade

I have read everyone's suggestion and success with using a strip of a horse stall mat as a cutting edge for my 54" blade on my 2520. It seems as though a 6" high piece would allow me to use it and then flip it and use it some more. My question is how wide? I was thinking maybe an extra 6" wide on each side would be good??? It would probably flex on big heavy snow but on the small stuff it would make my plowing width an extra 12" wide. Another advantage is when trying to get close to things such as fences, rock borders, etc. it would flex some if I get to close and not cause the damage the metal plow would. Am I missing something? Has anyone tried this and I did not see it mentioned doing my searches? Any and all input or thoughts are welcome as I have not purchased the mat yet. Thanks again for your years of trial, error, and insight.
