Howdy Y'all!
Just joined. Looking for someone who can help me win back the love for my John Deere 770 subcompact utility tractor.
I bought the tractor two years ago and it has had the problem from my adoption of it. Used to be only occasional, but now happens every time I drive it. 680 hours on it. When I was driving it this morning, I noticed that the right front wheel locked up and it almost looked like it was turning backwards. However, it was early and I may have not been completely awake. The rear wheels continued to turn, spin actually, while trying to push the tractor. I had it in two wheel drive. I don't think the left (as sitting in the tractor seat) was locked up but not for certain. I pushed in the clutch, stopped, checked to make sure I had the parking brake off (it was), and then sat for a few seconds trying to figure out what had happened and why. When I put the tractor in 1st gear, it moved freely with no wheels locked. A few minutes later, the same thing happened. And I did the same procedure. Don't know if it does this in 4-wheel drive or not...don't use that too much because it tends to tear up the grass. From all that I can tell, the parking brake is working properly...sometimes the parking brake light flashes when I don't have them on, but the parking brake doesn't lock up the wheels.
I really like this tractor and use the loader more than any other implement. Seems like a very small tractor to have all the bells and whistles that it does. Anyone have any idea as to what the problem may be? Time to trade it in?
Thanks, and happy tractoring. Life always looks better from the seat of a tractor.
