I am having problems with my 1989 John Deere 970. We are getting it ready to sell and the battery light is on and won't go off. I did some troubleshooting and found out that the battery was shot, I replaced the battery and it cranks and runs just fine but the battery light is still on. With the old battery being totally flat, I don't think the charging system is working correctly. Even with the bad battery it would jump off just fine and run. I pulled the plug for the alternator and it ran around 14 volts AC at idle, could this be the problem? I am going to get ahold of the manual tomorrow and take a look but don't want to go on a wild goose chase for a problem for a tractor that is going to be sold soon. I appreciate any help that can be provided...thanks!
