Was out bush hogging today, had been working for about an hour or so. Temperature gauge stayed steady, but when I throttled down to get off and open a gate the tractor began growling pretty loudly. Shut it off, did a little investigating, and found the water pump bearings have failed. With the belt off, there's a good 1/2" of play at the end of the fan blade and it's difficult to turn by hand.
Limped the tractor back to the shop without the belt, going to pick up a rebuild kit for the water pump, belt, and thermostat this week. I was shocked to find out a replacement water pump is over $580.00!
