5075M Cold Start

Newbie to the GreenTractorTalk Forum! Hello!

Question for the Northerners.

Relevant Info: 2013 John Deere 5075M, Deluxe Operator OS and Gauges, Standard PowrReverser 16x16 MFWD, standard glow plug starting aid, no additional cold weather equipment. Stored in unheated barn. 140 Hours. All fluids checked and proper levels. Battery Tender used to keep battery hot.

We have had some very cold weather down here in the south lately. We appreciate it, but you can have it back now .

Seriously, when I go to start my 5075M, The following occurs:

1) I verify PowrReverser shifter is in neutral, gear selector is in PARK and range selector is in neutral.
2) Turn on ignition - Instrument cluster all lights up for light check with audible beep, ends with engine symbol displayed (glow plugs active) and the count down shows in the LCD display normally. *No other indicators illuminated.*
3) Turn ignition key to start - Display blanks, engine starts (releasing key) and revs immediately to warm up RPM normally, while the display again lights up all indicators in a lamp check (normal) but then returns blank with no indications and the audible beep. *Note - what is not normal is that at this point, it should be displaying a "N" for neutral and the tractor mfwd indicator illuminated.*
4) Tractor runs at warm up RPM for about 90 seconds or so and then the yellow "!" warning indicator with audible beeping alarm.
5) I shut off the ignition and wait about 2 minutes.

Now I repeat this process about 4 or 5 times and when I start with step "2" the panel will illuminate the "N" for neutral and the MFWD light illuminates, the tractor will run normally, warming up the engine and dropping the idle automatically. If the weather is warm (> 35F) it does not give me any problem and on step "2" the "N" indicator pops on immediately. Also, I can run the tractor all day long and not have the problem again until the cold soak over night.

The dealer says it is due to thick HF running through the system and the "!" alarm is coming from the PowrReverser, recommending that I just let the tractor run (warming up) even with the "!" indicator on.

Following recommendations from the manual for cold starting, I added the jumper hydraulic hose to rear SCV port 1 and hold the valve open to help warm the HF. It does seem to shorten the duration of which I wait until the "N" indicator lights.

Is this "normal"? Is this happening on all the "M" tractors?
