Wheel retaining bolt question...

I recently picked up a low hour 1987 JD750, which near as I can tell spent most of it's life just sitting (We're going to change that, lol :good2:)

The tires were decidedly dry rotten, the rims have what I'd call normal rust for their age and are headed out to be bead blasted and repainted (as long as the tires are being replaced, now is the time to do it)

My question is this: Is there a chance that the wheel retaining bolts (lug bolts) are stainless steel :unknown:? They have no radial lines on the cap, only a "7" and a faint circle around the cap, are are decidedly rust free except for what appears to be a mid grey patina. The are magnetic, enough so that it really doesnt help me much, and I can find nothing in the literature I have.

If I knew they were stainless I'd buff them out and install as is, really would prefer that to painting... I just don't want to end up with 24 rust spots on freshly painted rims after all the work.

TIA,

MB
