Today I got some #67 granite gravel from a failed research product where I work. 4 drums 55 gallons each full or rocks. I was estimating each drum to be between 600 to 700 lbs each. So 2400 to 2800 pounds. I loaded it with a run of the mill propane powered forklift. It is not very big. Anyway when I got to the farm with the gravel I was surprised that my 5045E with a 553 loader had a difficult time lifting the pallet of drums. As I lifted the pallet of drums the rear tires of the tractor also left the ground. So I used 4wd and drove around with only the front wheels.
Not the best but I got the drums unloaded and out of the way for now. Kind of moved around in an odd way, reminding me of a scorpion or crayfish. If I would have had my bushhog or box scrape on this might not have happened. Anyway how much should I expect this tractor to safely lift? Obviously I was over what it should be lifting with it.
