I have been riding in a van pool for years, 14 to be exact. It looks like the one I ride will be disbanded at the end of July as the driver said he's turning it in due to low ridership (we have lost 3 riders this month). I travel about 160-165 miles round trip a day. My V-8 Dakota and my trusty old Ranger won't cut it for a commuter car, as I may have to drive everyday myself. I really don't want to, but I may have to buy a car that will be 1) give good, if not great gas mileage (around 40), 2) cost around $15,000 or less 3) be reliable. I only have a few dealers locally, a Ford dealer, a Chevy dealer and a Chrsyler dealer. The Toyota dealer is about 35 miles away and there are other dealerships available at about 50-60 miles away. I have only looked at the Chevy Spark (too little), the Chevy Sonic (don't care much for) and the Ford Fiesta. Of that bunch, I like the Fiesta the best. I also like to look at the Kia Rio, the Hyundai Accent, the Nissan Versa, and the Toyota Yaris. Anyone have any other suggestions for 40 mpg mileage and around 15K? Any reviews on the ones I've mentioned, etc? Any advice is appreciated (and I know the VW TDI's will come up for discussions as well as the Prius, etc., but I want to keep it around 15-16K range). Thanks.
