I am looking for a tiller for my 2520. For what ever reason the dealer tells me my rims are not reversable so we are looking at a fixed 52" width. I would like to cover these tracks with one pass and I am not crazy about off-set tillers for many reasons. My main use will be an existing garden, 30' x 90'. Some possible fresh ground but it would be minimal, 5' x 15'. I don't plan on doing anything commercial so I think a "cheaper" brand would do me just fine. No reason to go green here. So far this is what I have found:
Tractor Supply - $1400 on sale for a County Line Brand 60" made by Behlen. If you are in the south County Line brand is made by Tartar. The minimum recomendation is 20hp.
Mills Fleet Farm - $1549 for the new 54" King Kutter XBX. This would be the ideal size but so far is the most expensive and not available locally. I think I have seen it on sale for $1400. Not sure if the orange paint is any better than the yellow as I haven't seen it in person. The minimum hp recomendation is 20hp.
Blains Farm and Fleet - King Kutter II 60" for $1400. If not on sale they will match Tractor Supply price. They recommend 25hp minimum.
So can my tractor handle this size unit? Go shallow and go slow? They all seem to be about the same quality but I really don't know much about them. Same gear driven and slip clutch options. For some reason mother nature gave us 2 days of straight rain follwed by more of the white stuff so I have a little time but it is starting to run short. I have only found one used so far and they had it priced at $1300. I think $100 more for brand new would be worth the money.
Anyone have any experience with these brands and sizes, especially if you are or were running a 2520. I appreciate all input. Your first hand knowledge is far more valuable that any guess a sales person could make.
