Hi folks.....First timer here so bear with me. I've been keeping my Craftsman mowers going for years and was always happy with their performance. So, when I ran across this Super clean 87 John Deere 175 model, I couldn't resist. The guy was the original owner and had taken excellent care of it. Stored inside and dealer serviced, it's every bit as clean as it looks. So now, here I am, a proud owner of a JD that I know very little about. I'm a retired auto tech so I'm not afraid to explore new territory.
Here's what I do know. It starts every time, hot or cold, no smoke from what I have read is a 14 hp Kawasaki single cyl. Runs very good, mows very good, not much for brakes ( if that is a brake pedal on the right side), trans seems to work normally(knowing nothing about hydrostatic trans), everything works. Product Ident Number on tag is175x604785. Can see no engine #. Engine oil is very clean. No leaks.
He didn't have the owners manual or any info on it. He himself wasn't too keen on mechanical, but was very dilligent about taking care of all his stuff. So here's my spot. Can I get an owners manual, repair info, order parts, etc? I prefer doing my own work when possible.
So does anyone have experience with one of these? Any thing I should be prepared for? It seems a little noisy down in the "electric PTO clutch" area, which by the way looks like the clutch assy on an AC compressor for my car! I would really appreciate any tips, links of where to look, info, or anything pertaining to this nice piece of equipment. It's so clean I almost hate to get it dirty. It's nice to find something this old and well kept. Thanks for any help that I may receive. Lots of good info on this site, maybe one day I can add to it. Thanks again, x.006.JPG
