I am doing a job for my father in law on his 3140. complaint is that the hydraulics "flutter" or pulse when activating the hydraulic lever with implements on the back. 2 years ago he took the main pump in the front of the tractor off and had john deere dealer look at it. they said it was ok. father in law thinks its the charge pump. I know where the charge pump is on this tractor and don't want to split it if i don't have to! I thought there might be a couple little valves or pistons in the main pump wore and rocking in their bore causing the chattering, but better check out charge pump first.
So where do I take charge pump pressure and do I need any special fittings or gauges? I'm guessing the spec is fairly low pressure? I have mostly worked on the newer 6000/7000 series style tractors that have dr fittings on the priority valve. not sure about these tractors.
Also on another note, maybe related, maybe not. the steering will go full over one direction or another with a simple turn of the wheel. it just goes on its own. thinking steering motor issues? this one isn't a huge deal at the moment, just want the main hydraulics working good. thanks for any info!
