I need some advice
My LX176 quit moving forward or reverse. Sometimes (not always) it will make a chunking/grabbing noise when trying to move. I think the pulley on the trans is not moving at those times and the noise is the belt trying to grab. I can smell rubber burning. I checked the pulleys and clutch under the mower, they all appear to be fine.
I took the trans apart and see no apparent damage or wear, everything looks like new. The only thing that seems to be wrong is on the pump assembly. On the end of the aluminum casting are 2 steel discs with small rods and springs (see pic attached) one of the steel discs moves freely in the hole, the other is stuck tight. I'm not sure if this is a problem or not.
Does anyone know if the discs should be free or tight in the holes? Could they be the cause of the problem? Tuff Torq sells the whole assembly for $276 but I don't want to go that way unless I am more certain that is the problem.
Thanks
Paul
