When my 1025r was delivered, the mower deck was way out of adjustment so it was a while before I could mow with it. When I finally did get started mowing, after 30 - 45 minutes the RIO would start activating itself while mowing in forward, shutting off the pto and sometimes the engine too. Once this started it was intermittent but continuous, sometimes could go maybe 100 yards, sometimes could not go 10 feet before it would do it again.
Of course when the tech came out it would not do it. He ran it around for 10 or 15 minutes and it worked perfect. But he believed me and said he would order the pedal switch and if it happened again he would change out the switch.
And of course, the next time I mowed for 30 - 45 minutes, it started the same thing again. He came back and changed the switch, and that seems to have fixed the problem. Been hesitant to say till I use it more it but I have already ran it longer since the change than any of the other times, with no problems so far.
This RIO is a PITA when it is working right, but when it is hosed like this it can really drive you up the wall. Thanks to this forum I know how to disable it (and I probably will do that) but when I buy something I want to know that it works the way it is supposed to first, even tho I may modify it later.
The only thing that makes sense to me is that switch was sensitive to temperature, becoming intermittent after the machine heated up. The tech said he had seen JD literature about this problem and it is not that uncommon, not bad enough for a recall but a significant number.
I didn't think to ask at the time but I would bet that those problem switches were sourced from China.
