2520 Fuel Tank Movement

I did a search - I really did! If this issue has been addressed before, please direct me to the thread

The fuel tank on my 2520 seems to have moved. The fuel fill/cap is no longer centered in the hole in the hood. It is off enough now that when opening the hood it catches on the fuel cap. I feel I shouldn't have to remove the fuel cap to open the hood (as if I will remember......). I feel eventually it will end up cracking the hood in that area.

A couple months ago I tried a quick fix which didn't work too well. The front support for the fuel tank is a Z-shaped bracket. I slipped a flat washer between the tank mount and bracket in hopes of moving the top of the tank reward a bit.

When I had those bolts removed from the front brackets, I couldn't get much movement of the tank being it was still fastened down at the rear mounts. The rear mounts are tucked under the cowl - there is a 3/4" post that is welded at the bottom where it meets the bottom tray, and bolted to the top of the tank near the rear of the tank. It's so tight in there I couldn't even get a pic of it.

Tomorrow I am dedicating some time to tractor maintenance, and want to tackle this. Plus the tank is almost empty so it won't be quite so heavy. I am thinking the only real way to attack this is to remove the cowl so I can get at the rear tank mounts. I've never had the cowl apart and hoping it doesn't turn out to be one of those things where you have to remove a dozen or so parts to get at it.

Anyone else have this problem with their 2520? Any other solutions other than what I have planned?
