In case anyone is curious or interested in purchasing, I received an update from my dealer about the delivery of my new 4044m. The original delivery date was June 11, but I got a call today from the dealer who told me that the delivery date had been delayed to July 2. He did not give a reason for the delay. Also, he informed me that the dealership would be closed Thursday and Friday for the 4th, so realistically plan on Thursday or Friday of the following week before the tractor would be delivered to me.
So the issue that I have now is do I wait on the new 4044m or consider a 4120 demo with 33 hours that he has in stock? The biggest difference between the 4044m that I have on order and the 4120 that he has in stock is the 4120 is a Power Reverser trans and the 4044m that I have on order is a hydrostatic. However, the 4120 demo that he has in stock has the factory top/tilt option.
I would prefer the hydrostatic trans, but the power reverser is nice too and from what I understand puts more power to the wheels and to the PTO than the hydrostatic trans with the same horsepower. I've driven my Dad's old 650 a lot through the years, so both transmissions are nice to me, coming from a full manual trans with no synchronization.
I'm not big on the emissions controls built in to the new tractors. I don't think that it's a huge deal as some make it out to be, but it's one more expensive thing that can go wrong and unnecessarily adds complexity and maintenance issues. I'm also a little wary of all-new models. This is usually the best chance of having to deal with a recall or early production issues that have not been sorted out.
The in-stock 4120 is about $2000 more than the new 4044m, but I'm pressuring the dealer to do his best on pricing as it is a demo model and older stock, so I may get a little off the difference.
I would love to hear your suggestions about which to purchase. My primary uses are loader work, yard maintenance to include plugging/seeding/fertilizing (I have about 2 acres that is yard), and food plots for "Deere" season (sorry, I had to). I would especially like to hear from 4120 owners or other 4X20 owners about how they like their tractors. From what I've been able to read, they are really solid tractors with few issues.
