Just took my 2011 1023e into the dealer because it's been making a worsening noise when in 4wd. They think it's a bearing in the transmission. I'm now 7 months out of warranty. Unfortunately I noticed this when it was still under warranty last fall and asked the dealer about the excessive noise and they said it was normal to be noisy. I should have taken it in anyway. Now we'll see if JD will stand behind it or not. This will be a good time to fix the axle bearing that leaks like a sieve I guess. Can't wait to see what the estimate for this repair is.
My other experiences are a brand new 4310 that stopped moving periodically from the day I bought it new. After three attempts by the dealer to fix it it finally failed completely and wouldn't move at all six months after the warranty ended. JD refused to refund the $700 repair bill I paid to the dealer that finally figured it out even though I could document that it was a problem that existed from the day I bought it new. In addition they had a service bulletin about inadequate wiring on the wheel speed sensor harness. Many letters and calls to the JD main office yielded no results and I finally gave up and vowed to never buy a new JD again.
At the same time I had also purchased a G100 mower that suffered a head gasket failure at 54 hours, also 3 1/2 years after I bought it. As you can see I don't get a lot of hours on my equipment. This was just a cabin mower. JD refused to do anything about this issue as well. Arcadia implement in WI were a bunch a pricks about all of this too. The only good news in this story was that just for fun I called Kohler in WI who, even though they had no obligation to do so covered the head gasket repair. That was a great move on their part and I will be forever loyal to them.
Needless to say, although I like JD equipment, I've had rotten luck, and been treated like crap by them. I urge the rest of you to pursue every little item that goes wrong with your equipment and follow the terms of the warranty by the book. If anyone has any advice for me I'm all ears.
Thanks for listening to my rant and enjoy your summer!
