1949 Model A Gas Tank Rust

Hello All,

I just got a 1949 Model A. The only real problem with it is that it has a lot of rust in the gas tank. I know a couple ways to get the rust out but they all require taking the gas tank out.

I can't seem to figure out how to get the gas tank out. Do I have to take the steering rod off in order to get the engine cover and gas tank out?
