First project with the new 1025R FILB.. remove large Mesquite stump. Tree was about 20 to 25 ft tall, I cut it down about 3 months ago.. so it was still alive.. mesquites are hard to kill.. it was already growing new branches. It took me 3 months to decide what tractor to get mainly because of the 3 large stumps I need to remove. I was hesitant on getting a SCUT because I didn't think they could handle the job. Well I proved myself wrong today. These SCUTs can definitely handle the job.
The stump was about 18 in across.

After a couple of hours messing around I could finally see all the roots.. This is the first project and I had a bit of a learning curve using the backhoe.

Some of the roots were almost 12 in across. There were about 5 of these around the trunk.

Had to do a little manual labor and cut the roots.

Finally was able to move stump, flip it over to get to tap root.
5.jpg
The roots went over 40 ft from the trunk.. dug up as many as I could get to.
6.jpg
Cut the tap root... a little more manual labor.
7.jpg
Moving the truck was interesting.. popping a few wheelies (forgot to load bucket).. it was almost at the boom limit to get it out of the hole.

All cleaned up... like it was never there :yahoo:

Great first project. I even got Mrs. HoneyDew to fill in the hole.. she had a blast... guess I will have to hide the keys from her!
