Was mowing the front yard, in a hurry of course, and had the old LX 172 in 3rd gear. For several years, the hood has just "rested" on the chassis, because the hinges were broken. That worked well, until I hit a root of the old 50 foot Cottonwood just a bit too hard...the hood bounced up, hit the ground and dislodged the grill from the hood. As luck would have it, I didn't have time to stop and I ran over the grill...with the mulcher doing its thing, there wasn't a piece of the grill left bigger than a mini-Snickers bar. Broke my heart. Now I have to mow with no hood, and you can't tell it's a John Deere; looks like a home made job. The neighbors think I'm just a Red Neck. How embarrassing.
But I do have one legitimate question...will the old 14h Kawasaki still cool itself without the hood?
Dennis.
P.S. Anyone have an extra hood for a 1993 John Deere LX 172?
