I must start this off by saying I am a rookie at using the rotary cutter so this could be all on me but...
I have maybe 8 hours of total run time (PTO engaged) with this RC2072 attachment and I bet I have had 8 sheared off shear bolts. My first and only location for use has been to mow the pasture, no rocks to speak of, just some bumps in the ground and grass that gets maybe 4"-6" inches. If I don't see the bump first and raise the cutter, it almost always will shear the bolt the moment I hear the blades hit the dirt. :gaah: That seems far to fragile to me (says the guy replacing these damn bolts in the field) but maybe I'm not being careful enough. I'm using grade 2 bolts, as was recommended from the JD dealer, purchased from Ace Hardware. Is this be the usage I should expect from the cutter and do I really need to baby this thing that much? Or, maybe the grade 2 bolts I have are crap? :unknown:
I ask because I have seen Youtube videos where people are using similar attachments to clear some thick brush and there is just no way I could do that with my cutter. I'd love to, in fact I need to, but I suspect I'd be replacing shear bolts with every bush I ran over.
Thoughts?
