Read this article today , had to share with others. We heard the song this spring ,glad to hear they are finally getting out to the public. At the bottom of page is the location where you can hear the song. Morgan is the middle girl top row, along with the others and their music teacher.

BRUCETON MILLS — Six Bruceton School students were schooled in songwriting this past winter and recently had a chance to hear their song on the radio.

It all began when their music teacher, Dave Cox, convinced his friend Scott Simons to lead a songwriting workshop at Bruceton School. Simons, a member of the now-defunct Morgantown band The Argument, has since gone on to more songwriting credits and plays keyboards on “America’a Got Talent.”

Enter eighth-graders Peyton Tomlinson, Ashlynn Phillips, Lexxi Grubb, Selena Jenkins, Morgan Wassick and Haley Livengood.

The song, titled “I’m No Superman” was written in February and performed at the school’s Spring Concert.

“I got the theme from my life experience,” Morgan said. Her father, Kirk Wassick, had been diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) “and I didn’t know how to tell him in words,” she said.

“He passed away this last July, and it meant a lot that I could write a song and have him hear it.”

On Friday, Sept. 26, many more got to hear it. Cox said he and his friend, WVAQ personality Kevin Connoley, talked about the song “in the context of keeping music in the schools” and Connoley played “I’m No Superman.”

Among the listeners were the songwriters themselves.

As of noon on Monday, Sept. 29, more than 1,000 had downloaded the song from soundcloud.com.

The young songwriters will perform the song again Oct. 24 at the school during the “VH1 Blowout.”

The school received about $30,000 worth of band instruments through a grant from the VH1 Save the Music Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to keeping music in schools.

Cox said the school will celebrate that at the blowout.

“It’s just a big thank-you,” Cox said.
