I have a 2000 6405 (economy 6410), and cannot figure out why I am getting milky hydraulic oil.
Bought the tractor used in 2011 and it was semi clear/milky by spring 2012, so I changed it in june 2012, as well as the filters. I also replaced the transmission breather as I thought water was getting in at that point. oil fill dipstick had a good seal as well and has always been tight.
Now this year it is more milky than before (only one year since I last changed it) So I changed it again ($$$) (removing all 3 drain plugs, 3 point hitch down and cycled the steering cylinders to remove most of the oil)
I was thinking maybe coolant (mixing from the hyd oil cooler), but the coolant level hasn't changed at all. I also left the tractor for a week after I changed it for the second time and worked it fairly hard to get coolant temp/pressure high, and checked the hyd oil after a week of sitting. I slowly removed the drain plug to see if any water/coolant settled to the bottom. nothing but clear oil.
This tractor is used all year, is outside year round. we plow snow with it in the winter. It always gets fully warmed up any time we start it. We also have a 7320 that does the same duty's as this tractor (plows snow, outside all year) and its hyd oil is clear and golden, no signs of water getting in.
So I am confused where its getting moisture in it. I do not want to keep replacing the oil every year/250hours! I also know on these tractors it is bad to have milky hydraulic oil as it will take out the powerquad/reverser clutch facings, brakes, and pto. so its a bit of a concern. thanks to anyone who has any ideas or experience with this issue.
