The plastic plugs in the toplink on my 2520 have always bothered me. What are they for? Today I took care of the bother.

Grease fittings:

Every toplink I have ever seen on old tractors had grease fittings in it. I pulled the plastic plugs out on mine and saw it was just a hole, no threads. I am guessing there is some reason for these plugs, maybe a pin that keeps the ball ends from unscrewing all the way is pressed into the threaded end of the ball end through these holes.
I took my trusty pipe thread tap, and threaded the holes to fit a grease fitting on each end of the toplink. The hole is the proper size for the tap, so I am guessing that at some point Deere was thinking of maybe putting grease fittings in. I adjust my toplink frequently, so I feel better being able to grease it up. Maybe I'm not supposed to, but I can't see what it would hurt.
