I was going to hold off posting this, but may be too busy to share later.
This evening I was walking through the woods for exercise even though it is hot. As I was making my way up a horse trail after crossing a wet weather creek, I spotted a dark object close to the trail. Must've been about four feet from it when it moved. The movement is thankfully what allowed me to see whatever it was.
With sweat running down my face and in my eyes, I couldn't get a clear idea of what I saw as it moved up the slight embankment and into a hole or burrow. It appeared to be dark brown in color and estimate to be 8 inches or less in diameter. It was not a snake or lizard.
From a young age, I grew up messing with snakes, scorpions, tarantulas, and most any other critter that a kid would naturally be curious about. With having said that, I don't have a clue what it was I saw this evening. If only I could have gotten a clearer look. Something peculiar is that it made a popping noise as it crawled toward the hole.
I've seen all kinds of critters across several states up close, but I still am puzzled. All I could do was take pics of the hole and surrounding area.
