445 Tractor Hydraulic Leak

I have an issue with a John Deere 445 garden tractor transmission blowing the pressure relief valve out of the top of the transmission (just under the seat fender) and pouring out hydro fluid. It's done it twice now. The first time, I assumed something was wrong with the valve, so I put a new one on it. I don't see how I could've installed it incorrectly, since it appears to be just a tight rubber fit in the housing. But it's blown out again, which leaves me to conclude that since it's a pressure relief valve, there's excessive pressure being created within the transmission.

What could be causing this? To the best of my knowledge, it's been about a couple of years since the hydro fluid and filter was changed. Could a plugged filter cause hydro fluid to pressure up behind the relief valve like this? Sounds likely to me, but it's honestly just a guess.

What kind of problems can be caused by using generic hydraulic fluid from the local farm supply store instead of John Deere label hydro fluid? Could it possibly contribute to an issue like I'm having? I can say for sure that at least part of the hydro fluid in the transmission isn't John Deere.

Thanks in advance for any input!
