2520 Engine Oil Change and Lube

Yestereday I changed engine oil on our 2520 for the 2nd time. I put < 100 hours on in a year but still change the oil once a year. I believe other's may have written about process but I thought I would mention a few of the nuances I noticed.

First is the location of the oil filter. It is located directly above the FEL mount to the frame. I remember from last time, I had quite abit spill back behind the frame. This time I cut up a soda box and slid it under the filter until it was flush against the engine. As you can see from the pics, the oil flowed over the FEL mount and didn't leave much of a spill.

In addition, I changed out the air filter. John Deere lists the air filter to be replaced "as needed". I am by no means an expert on air filters but it looked like it could be replaced.

I also greased the tractor (8) and FEL (12). In the link below, dieselshadow notes the service manual lists only 3 zerks but there are instead 8 on the tractor.

Below are some pictures of where the other 5 are hiding on the tractor. There are 3 under the platform on the left hand side (as you sit in the seat). These are for the brake linkages.

The other 2 are located under the platform on the right hand side. These are for the hydro pedals.

Finally, I switched my tires from the wide position to narrow. This helps keep the rears within the path of the snowblower. In the winters, almost all of the 2520 activity is on hard surfaces.
