Last Saturday I went to get the 2305 out to do some pick-up chores and all I got was a slow turnover and then click....:nunu:
The outdoor temp was great - in the 50's - 60's. I had just used the tractor a few days ago......
I did the standard tests - no measurable drain on the battery with everything off, etc. Charged the battery for a couple hours, still nothing, so I jumped it. Checked the voltage 14.5+ so the alternator is good.
Ran the tractor 2+ hours and it still didn't have enough to crank with normal speed.... Dealership is closed and I was out of town last week.
This is battery #2. The first one made it over years and died last Feb. This one made it just a year. When I got to the dealer on Saturday they would not warranty it. It was over a year old (Sat was 1 March.....) Got to wonder if this was still the small local dealership instead of the Mega-Dealership that just bought them out what would have happened?
I'd done some research last week while I was sitting around my hotel room and a Group 51R and a Group 35 compatible in size to fit. The 51R is almost the same size and the Autozone Gold Duralast has 500 CCA... Pretty much nothing has the same mounting tabs that the JD battery does - But I have a welder!
I put this together today and got it test fitted. It still needs a good coat of paint but here is what I came up with.
It is 1/2" angle and 3/4" flat bar. I cut the heads off of a couple 5/16 bolts and drilled out the 8mm nuts in the tractor frame so that the new straps will go through them.
Fits snug as a bug in a rug. Oh, and the Duralast has a 3yr replacement 5yr prorated warranty. Strong Box my _$$.
She cranks just like she should. :yahoo:
