So my lx178 started having issues last year and I took it to a local repair guy. He charged me a little bit of nothing for cleaning the carb and it ran fine for a little while. Then it developed a problem where after having run for a while (10-20 minutes) it would start leaking gas. I did some looking around on the internet and the float needle seemed to be the most common problem.
I bought a replacement, along with replacement springs and connecting rods. Pulled the carb and put everything together, put it back together and it wouldn't start. I decided to pull the fuel pump and see if that was a problem. Fuel pump was shot, the insulator/spacer was cracked, and the gaskets were gone. Replaced the fuel pump with a new one, new gaskets/spacer/insulator everything. Pulled the gas tank and cleaned it, put in new fuel lines and a new fuel filter.
So, the carb is clean with a new float valve, new fuel pump, new everything that I can replace. I got the tractor started. It was running a little rough so I pulled the spark plugs and cleaned them. Everything seems to be working, but... I mowed around the yard to try it out and it cut fine. I stopped and restarted the motor a few times, then I smelled gas. Gas is dripping rapidly from the carb. I can't tell from where, but I'm going to replace the gasket on the float bowl.
Am I missing something stupid? Is there an electronic fuel cut off that I need to check? I may have changed the idle or high speed screws when I had the carb, but I've reset them to 1.5 turns out from being all the way in. I would appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Brian
