I have had an MX-6 Rotary cutter for the last 7 years and even when it was brand new I have never gotten a very good cut on my fields and I alway overlap my cuts to try and get what the tractor tires knocked down on the previous pass. I run it with my 4120 and always mow in low range on the hydro transmission even though it will pull it in the mid range. I know it's a rotary cutter and they don't provide a finish cut, but I have 3 different neighbors that all have Land Pride rotary cutters and they all get a really nice cut and don't have stuff standing back up like I always do. Also I have tried mowing both clockwise and counter-clockwise and clockwise seems to give a slightly better cut, but no where near as nice as my neighbors get. About once a year I do touch the blades up with a grinder which helps a little bit, I am not putting a knife edge on since I know that isn't how these were designed to be. One of my neighbors was given his Land Pride cutter and it's a little on the beat up side and he's never done anything to it but mow and he still gets a great cut. We were talking about it yesterday and he even mentioned that when he used mine to clean up my field after he hayed it (since I was busy, but I offered to let him use mine instead of his since my mower was already on the tractor) that he was surprised at the lousy cut quality. I do run a foot wider cutter than they do, but I have the equivalent hp to width ratio they do. Is there that much difference in the design of the cutters that could be causing this?
