So I finished up my contract for the season. I can relax and enjoy whats left of the summer, haha, we had 4" of snow last week.
Overall the 2720 did good, not terrific but ok. Still disappointed in the strips of grass that get left behind from the wheels laying it down. Also thought it would handle the tall grass better seeing as how its got 10hp more than my F932 front deck mower(gasser 18hp). Both have 6ft decks but the deck on the F932 is a lot beefier and is a deeper deck so can handle the tall grass better. The 2720 had the power to chew thru it but the shorter deck would get clogged up. Its too bad they don't make rear discharge decks, they probably clear themselves out easier. Also the 2720's deck isn't as tough as the F932. I've twice lost a caster wheel off the deck(first time snapped the wheel and 2nd time pin broke) and twice I've broken the height adjustment cable(granted the first time was from it being installed wrong by previous owner).
I really don't like the floating deck setup the 2720 has. I find it lets the deck bang and clang around to much and causes missed spots when the tractor goes over uneven ground. In comparison the F932 has large rubber tires on the front casters that allow it to flow the ground contour, the rear of the deck is supported by the machine. This seems to let it cut more evenly over uneven terrain. The puny, plastic tires on the 2720 deck look like cheap toys in comparison. I'm going to keep an eye out for some rubber wheels to replace them with.
The loss in cut quality isn't a huge deal as the fields I cut don't need to look good, they just need to be cut. Still is disappointing when looking back after a day of cutting and seeing a field that looks like it was cut by a rough cut mower.
The 4wd and turning brakes are a dream though. Really enjoyed that part of it. Also the extra power(and traction) going up hills so I can actually mow uphill is nice as well.
Weed sparing is way nicer. I was using a Polaris quad. In comparison the 2720's power steering and turn brakes plus the ability to carry a much larger tank cut that operation's time in 1/2.
Fuel consumption is about equal, the F932 was probably a bit better, however the F932 had dual saddle tanks so I could easily do a full days worth of mowing. The 2720 isn't even close, atleast one refill is usually required forcing me a carry a can of diesel. If I ever see an larger tank option I'll be all over it.
Tires are much better on the 2720, the F932 had soft turf tires and I usually had 2-3 flats per season. The R4s on the 2720 didn't even flinch.
All in all had I bought it JUST to grass cut for my company I'd be pretty disappointed and better off with another/newer 4wd diesel F-series mower(I'd don't think a zero turn would survive long). However the loader/forks and other attachments have been getting quite a workout and the all round versatility in why I bought it instead of a dedicated mower.
