Those of you familiar with the 62D1 deck will recognize the pictures below. They show one side of the lift link assembly that enables adjustment of the 62D1 deck to insure a level cut. While mowing yesterday, the cotter pin holding the drilled pin in place came out enabling the leading bracket to dig into the somewhat wet ground. Didn't notice this til I had made a couple of rounds and then it became obvious something was trying to act as a small plow.

Stopped the tractor to figure what was going on and found the solid bracket in front had been digging into the ground. The slotted rear bracket was badly bent (pictures here show the bracket after my repair job which enabled me to finish mowing. Repair required use of a large vise, crowbar, anvil, my biggest hammer and use of a bolt which would fit the now smaller slot in the trailing bracket.

Took this assembly to my dealer today to order another part to replace the bent slotted bracket. Cost is $71 and the small hardware is about $12. When I learned the part was that expensive, I asked if there was any chance the JD warranty would cover the necessary parts. Answer was "not likely" but call the manager tomorrow to be sure.

Whaddya' you think? Obviously if the cotter pin had done it's job, the solid bracket would not have dug into the ground and resulted in the slotted bracket being badly bent. My impression is the dealer is not at all interested in working with me on this . . . guess I'm disappointed. :gaah:
