My 6400 is a workhorse. It goes to work all day everyday. Since the recent downtime for the PTO rebuild it has performed all of these regular duties:
Placing the large hose reel and dragging it's 1400 ft irrigation/manure line:

Pulling and spinning the mower conditioner at 1000 rpm as we knock down a 20 acre bite:

Agitating the manure lagoon with a giant propeller to keep solids in suspension while we pump the lagoon as fertilizer:

And last but not least, Pulling and spinning the 540rpm JD 348 baler or Vermeer 504 Silage round baler.
Today I experienced a new problem..... The tractor did not have any forward momentum at times. The motor runs, its in gear but it lost forward momentum. The first time this happened I was baling at C1 gear. When I stopped, changed gear to B3 it began to move out forward again. I was able to make a fair amount of progress by working with different gears but the issue became more pronounced over time and finally the rear PTO became involved too, again.
At this time I'm thinking that JD110 was more right than I wanted him to be when he emphasized that I might have a clutch disk problem as indicated by the clutch type debris that I found in the bottom of the tractor and in the hydraulic screen under the left rear axle during the PTO clutch replacement. I want to emphasize that when the original PTO problem manifested I never at anytime had a motion/power to the ground problem with the tractor. This is totally new.
Looking ahead. I'm thinking that I'm way past time to have a Repair manual in my possession. The same one that the dealer has in his shop library. I'm sure those are available somewhere but I've never bothered to find out where.
Anybody point me to a source?
I am curious about how the internal transmission and clutches talk to each other. For example, when the tractor is parked at the edge of the lagoon in a stationary position and I have the propeller operating on the PTO, I'm using the tractor motor to turn the PTO which is powered by the power shaft that I handled recently. That shaft fits into a gear deep in the tractor and it can be powered by the PTO switch located on the right fender--on/off without the tractor driving forward. OR the PTO can be powered and I can be driving forward like when I pull a baler. So, there are a set of clutches or gears which engage or disengage depending of what I tell the tractor to do from the pilot seat. Its all magic to me....
But I see an education coming....(who is that man behind the curtain?)..Is this an issue that I can deal with in my garage?
