Ok, so I have been persuaded :flag_of_truce:to show the process I went through to convert my D120 non-quick attach loader bucket to the H120 quick attach style. I did this conversion 3 years ago but I took pictures in case I ever decided to do a write up. Some of you may be thinking "why didn't I just spend an extra $700 and get the H120 in the first place?". At the time, I didn't want my tractor cost to exceed $20000 with a loader, MMM and 260 backhoe so one of my cost cutting measures was in the loader design. I never take the loader off so the pin style loader mounting is still the same and does not bother me but I soon realized I HAD to have quick attach function in the bucket so I could get Artillian's forks. The first picture shows everything you will need to do the conversion. Sorry, I don't have part numbers but the stuff was pretty easy to get through my John Deere dealer. The parts total was roughly $400 and consisted of the 2 main quick attach arms, upper hooks and lower pins for the bucket and the equalizer shaft. The second picture is a good closeup for all of you H120 loader owners that never see this permanent setup. As you can see the only way the bucket can come off is by removing 4 pins. Even after removing the pins there is still no easy way to install forks. I removed the pin-on bucket and cut all of the welded brackets off of the D120 bucket to start with a clean slate. I then mocked up the new upper hooks and lower pins and welded them to the bucket. The gray primer looking stuff you see on the bucket is actually weld-through primer. I didn't want to weld the brackets to the bucket and leave bare metal underneath to start the immediate process of rusting so I used weld-through primer. It's great stuff and our body shop uses it all the time. It contains metal particles that allow current flow when welding, giving you rust prevention and good penetration. Once everything was welded on I repainted in John Deere green and swapped over the quick attach arms on the loader itself. The quick attach arms were pretty easy and straight forward so I didn't take pictures of that process.

How's the weather at your place - January 2016
Geez - even with the New Year I forgot about the end/beginning of the month again - what a slacker!
Seasonable temps here today and the next few days with highs around 30°. Calling for the possibility of Lake Effect snow squalls today - could get nothing but could get 3"-5" - depends if a snow band sets up over you.

What is your New Years Resolution??
Hi All, Just was wondering if this would be a good thread. Perhaps at the end of the year we can have a year in review?
My New Year's resolution is to lose weight. I am this AM at 240lb. I would have a goal of 210lb by the end of the year.
Come on all. Make it realistic!! Let's see who can actually keep their resolution this year!! Gizmo2:gizmo::gizmo: is volunteered to come up with the prize!! (Just bustin)

Exhaust Tip
I did not think of it much at the time but now I see the importance of an exhaust tip for my 1025R. I took off the bucket today getting ready for the 50 hour and I noticed the excessive amount of soot left behind on my bucket from the exhaust. I know this is an easy fix with a turned down exhaust tip (seen pics) but finding a 1 1/2 diameter exhaust tip is proving hard for me to find. Can anyone please help me out and point me in the right direction to obtain a tip.

Craftsman/Atlas 6x18 metal lathe
Hiya,
Atlas/Craftsman 6x18 Metal Lathe mentioned in this thread: http://www.greentractortalk.com/foru...tml#post497249
The ways are very, very good, carriage is tight across entire length of bed. Simply not large enough for my needs. Would make a great starter lathe to get into metal working. The cross slide thumb wheel handle was missing before I got it, you can order a new replacement as most parts are available through Clausing. Clausing Industrial | Machine Tools | CNC | Manufacturers | Distribution
Comes with: 3 and 4 jaw chucks w/key and spanner wrench, index plate, 2 sets of threading gears (fine/coarse) live center, two tool posts, tailstock w/ wrench, 1/4 and 3/8 Jacobs chucks, chuck adapter to use these small chucks on a mill or larger lathe, re-printed manuals and original Craftsman 1/3 HP motor. The heavy metal roller cabinet it's sitting on is not part of the $400 deal but is available separately. (It's a bit ugly with the surface rust but build like a tank, the top is 3/8 plate and it's at least a couple hundred lbs.)
I have this listed on CL for $450, GTT price: $400 Lathe can be crated and shipped UPS but it's on your dime, cabinet would need to go truck.

Using Legal Options to Reduce Taxes, Fees and related expenses
I posted this thread in response to a question which 316 asked me in the GOOD MORNING THREAD about original receipts and how carbon and cash register receipts can fade over time. Since this answer got kind of long, I didn't want to put it in the Good Morning Section and since this may be of some interest to others, I thought maybe it should be in it's own off topic thread.
The question posed by 316 was essentially "What happens if your original receipt or documents fade over time?" as this was part of a discussion about extended warranty companies requiring the original sales receipts, in some cases, in order to process extended warranty claims.
This is also an issue with the IRS and their audits, but they have allowed me to use photocopies of receipts and checks, etc. in the dozen or so audits I have had the opportunity to personally experience with them. This led to me explaining about the process we use to deal with this issue as well as what happened when I needed one of the original documents and was quite surprised to find out that it had vanished at a time when it was REALLY IMPORTANT.
Ok, Here we go.........
Funny you should ask. My wife always takes the receipts and makes a photocopy of them because she keeps everything in 3 ring binders alphabetically and chronologically by month, so she wants them on 8.5 x 11" paper so she can 3 hole punch it to fit in the 3 ring binders anyways and it's faster to copy the receipt than to try to tape it to the page. Then she puts all the original receipts in a clear pouch in the back of the 3 ring binder for that month so she has the original and a copy. We haven't had any of the originals fade to the point of "being invisible" yet but some are certainly on their way.
But I did run into an interesting problem with another important document, which was on a form of copy paper from being a multi copy document run through what looks like a dot matrix type printer. Some of my vehicles are registered and owned by a Montana LLC which is my personal name. So, the registration and title paperwork simply says my name, LLC and then at the Montana Address which is my Montana lawyers office in Missoula, MT.
The reason I have done this is a couple fold. Montana has no state sales tax on vehicle purchases (or any purchases for most things still, last I checked) and they also issue lifetime (permanent) license plates on many different vehicles like trailers and my Harley's, etc. Also, I wanted the extra personal liability shield which the LLC provides because when I started the LLC, I was "Semi Professionally Drag Racing" and there is a element of risk to going 0 to 230 mph in 1,320 feet or 0 to 180 mph in just 660 feet and should there ever be an incident, I wanted the extra holding company "entity veil". So my race cars, semi truck and trailer, motorcycles, track scooters, etc, etc. ended up being owned by the LLC., along with a couple of my personal vehicles like my Mercedes SUV, etc.
Well, I bought a 45' diesel motor coach a few years ago and the sales tax in Michigan would have been $26,000 plus the annual plates are something like $1,800 because it is based on value, etc. In Montana, if you are a resident, the permanent plates for that vehicle were something like $195. The sales tax on the Semi Truck and custom race trailer would have been another $30,000 plus in Michigan and in Montana, it was merely the cost to set up the LLC and the lawyers fees to maintain it, which was less combined than Michigan wanted just for the license plates for the Diesel motor coach annually. So needless to say, over a few years, it saves you a lot of cash.
Well, I was pulled over this spring on my Harley for 97 mph in a 70 mph zone and when I reached into my saddle bags and pulled out my certificate of insurance and registration, I hadn't opened the registration in a couple of years because it isn't renewable since it is a permanent issue. It also is on a 8.5" x 11" sheet of carbon copy paper and when I opened it up and handed to the officer, he looked at me and said "Do you realize that this is a blank sheet of paper?" (other than the Official State of Montana letterhead it is on) Sure enough, all of the printing was GONE since it was the carbon copy. Turns out the moisture from riding in the rain, etc. caused the page to "vanish", even though I had it in a plastic shipping label pouch stuck to the inside of the saddle bag but not sealed shut so I can slide the documents out when I need them.
I was shocked. I think he could tell by my reaction that I was as surprised as he was. I thought for sure I was getting a "free ride downtown". He ran my plates through the lien and background check and it came back clear. But what really seemed to break the ice was the fact that I had already stopped and was waiting for him when he had turned around to "speak with me". I knew he would be really "unhappy" if I made him run me down, which I knew from past personal experience. And I had my I.D. and CPL out when he arrived and immediately declared the firearm I was wearing. He "explained" that I should probably "cool it" and he also said I hadn't had a ticket since 1994. (Important note, I don't often ride or drive like I was in this instance. We had just made some "tuning enhancements" and I was trying them out. Normally, I am quite the responsible guy as evidenced by my 21 year ticket free history).
But he did say to me " I can assure you that if you keep these sorts of stunts up, that will no longer be the case". He was actually really cool about the whole thing and he mentioned that he appreciated I didn't make him "chase me". See, personal experience does pay off........ It also doesn't hurt that my brother is a Captain in the Sheriff's department so the officer was quite familiar with my last name, which is very unusual.
I have been through 3 State of Michigan tax audits because of my chronic IRS "relationship". While Michigan wasn't happy about me taking advantage of the "loop holes" which exist, there wasn't anything they could do about it. This is one of the reasons why most commercial vehicles you see all have plates from either Utah, Montana, some are from Delaware, Maine, etc, depending upon their state of corporate establishment and the tax regs which permit you to take these advantages if you know the law.
Check out the next UPS or Fed Ex truck you see and chances are the license plates will be from a state other than the one you live in. Also, most of the Luxury Motor coaches have Montana plates for the same reason. I am all for paying my share of taxes but I don't want to be stupid about it. I research the law and use every available legal remedy to keep as much of my own money. Yes, it has brought me into audits, etc., but I always represent myself and I have yet to lose one. :unknown:
One more morsel to think about for those of you who are boat owners. I set up an LLC to own our boat when we purchased it, but it is NOT in my personal name because I want the LLC to be resalable to others. The reason I did this is because that way the boat is owned by and registered to the LLC and when you sell the boat, you actually sell the LLC company which owns the boat and that way the boat isn't subject to either state sales tax nor is it required to be re-registered, all of which are expenses and the larger the boat, the larger the registration and tax fees. It also provides you with the liability shield so you insure the boat through the LLC (same with all vehicles in any LLC). To avoid some goofy name that a new owner may not like, I usually just name the LLC similar to the boat so it makes sense. My boats LLC is a variation of the boats size and builder such as "The 45 Sea Ray Sun Dancer, LLC".
Hope some of you find this information of value to help minimize taxes, fees and liabilities legally......

955 4x4 front end
I have a 1996 955 4x4 and my concern is the following,
When I lift the left hand front end and grab onto the tire and wheel it wiggles a bit inward and then outward. In the manual I noticed that there is no bearing to tighten, but rather has a bushing toward the center. the tractor has only 800 hour and I am wondering if this is normal. Also is my concern that the bushing or something else must be looked at??, unless this is normal because the other side has the same wiggle.
Any advice???
Thanks for responding

New wood shortener!
Long story short, wood guy's deliverer screwed up the length's of my 4 cd's giving me 18-20" instead of 16" or less... sooo... Got a nice negotiated refund in place of him coming back and doing an exchange of the wood. I started shortening proceedure with my "rack method" (4 posts- wood between piled 3' high-cut spare wood off ends all in one motion.
Naturally it was at that time, with the heating season in full swing, my faithful Stihl 026P/20"'s oil pump pooped. Tried all the usual check methods, flushed the tank/pump/line w/fuel mix, checked P-U filter, etc. No go, 's gotta have an oil pump... So off to my JD/Sthil dealer armed with my list of saws from "pro" down to "homowner" quality hoping for a 241C-M/16" MS 241 C-M | Compact & Lightweight Professional Chainsaw | STIHL USA Mobile on the top of the lislt. They had one right in the rack, but w/18", better yet! Very seldom do I get exactly what I want from any place the exact time I want it... ended the ol' year RIGHT!
While I have the 026 on the bench I'll not want for heat!

"MODERN TIMES"! There's NO screws on the carb for mixture OR idle! Just Stihl's "M-Tronic" thingy that I suppose is some kind of computer control. To adjust it for changes in weather or altitude one simply makes 5 full cuts...! The magic self adjusting carb on the 026 has been flawless for 10 years so I have great hope for this one. Only made 3 full cuts in the rack so far so I'm not pushing it for a couple more tanks of fuel, but it cuts really nice (and why not, new chain!).

Operating a hydraulic operated sickle bar from a 1025r?
I am a newbie to this site but I had a question in regards to operating a hydraulic driven sicklebar mower to my 1025R, I am fairly mechanically inclined but when it comes to hydraulics I'm going to need some help. I am interested in purchasing a hydraulic hedge trimmer that will mount to my loader. The hedge trimmers hydraulic motor uses a maximum of three GPM per minute. My question is what I'd be better off installing a PTO driven hydraulic pump or could I put together something from John Deere in regards to their power beyond kit with a solenoid control valve so I would have a clean installation with a electric switch if that is possible also I think dear makes a kit that would require a third hydraulic mechanical valve that mounts to the right side ROPS any help would be greatly appreciated with this project

I did get the 47" Blower set up finally today, did have to get extension hoses for the hydraulic shute control, no biggie, lot let expensive to keep the 425 blower and add 3' to the hoses.
So any ideas you all might have for this light question would be great.

DIM (Did It Myself) 3 pt. hitch
A few weeks ago, I started building a 3 point hitch for my 330. I completed it this weekend. Thought I'd share a few pics it with y'all.
Bought four Cat 0 ball ends and a section of 1/2" X 2" flat bar. Cut the bar to length and welded the ball ends.
IMG_0343.JPG IMG_0354.JPG
Cut out the rock shaft arms. 1/2" X 2" flat bar.
IMG_0635.JPG
Below is the factory rock shaft with the center link tabs(circled) welded to it.
I turned the original hitch upside-down; and welded a section of heavy angle iron onto it, to create the lower draft link attaching point. Then, I welded tabs to attach the lower ball of the draft links. I also welded a 2" receiver to the hitch.

Okay, here's a few shots of the whole mess installed on the 330.
IMG_0661.JPG IMG_0667.JPG IMG_0663.JPG
After the 3 point hitch was finally installed, I built a hitch attachment. Clean, primed and applied John Deere Green. Tomorrow, I'll buy a 2" receiver to weld to the hitch attachment. I know, I should have done this prior to painting. I'm just goofy that way. :mocking:

Next project is to fabricate sway bars to prevent side to side hitch movement when an implement is attached.

After the 3 point hitch was finally installed, I built a hitch attachment. Clean, primed and applied John Deere Green. Tomorrow, I'll buy a 2" receiver to weld to the hitch attachment. I know, I should have done this prior to painting. I'm just goofy that way. :mocking:

After the green paint dried, I installed the hitch attachment.

I've got to visit Tractor Supply tomorrow to buy a few more 5/8" Cat 0 pins.
Next project is to fabricate sway bars to prevent side to side hitch movement when an implement is attached.

Something Curious just happened on GTT that I don't Understand
While I was typing on a thread in the forum, I got a message on my Smarter than Me PHONE. The message said I had gotten an email from GTT because I was just sent a Private Message. So when I finished the posting, I went to my profile and guess what, NO Private Message. Also, while I had several new likes, no PM indicated there either in the notification section.
I checked my email on both the Smarter than Me PHONE and my computer and there WAS a Private Message, which was a return of a message I had sent one of the members earlier. His message didn't require a response but it did answer a question which he had already answered in a PM yesterday. So as of this moment about an hour after the emails, I still have NO Private Message within the GTT site.
Any thoughts?:unknown:
